Warren Jeffs

Warren Jeffs, the infamous polygamist sect leader, will be extradited to Texas after Utah Governor Gary Herbert signed an extradition warrant. Jeffs will face criminal charges of sexual assault of a child in Texas.
Currently, there has been no date specified for Jeff’s extradition.
Indicted in 2008 on a felony charge of sexual assault of a child, Jeff was accused of assaulting a child in 2005 that was younger than 17 years old. The charges Jeffs currently faces include a fine of $10,000 and jail time of 5 to 99 years, or life, in prison.
Jeffs has been embroiled in criminal scandal for quite some time, most charges stemming from his position in the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (FLDS). On July 28th, Jeff’s 2007 convictions of being an accomplice to rape were overturned on the grounds of erroneous instruction given to jurors. He had casino internetowe been accused to using his religious influence among members of the church to convince a 14 year old girl to marry her 19 year old cousin.
The FLDS, a 10,000 member sect of mainstream Mormonism, considers Jeff a “prophet.” Members of the FLDS practice a tradition of polygamy at their ranch in Eldorado, Texas. Many critics of the church accuse the organization of forcing young girls into “spiritual” marriages with much older men, where they are then sexually abused, an accusation that has been vehemently denied by members of the sect.
